Endeavour Hills is a suburb located in the southeastern part of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It covers an area of approximately 14.9 square kilometers and has a population of around 24,000 as of 2016.

Early History

The history of Endeavour Hills dates back to the early 1800s when the area was inhabited by the Bunurong people, the Aboriginal people of the Kulin nation. They used the land for hunting, gathering, and ceremonial purposes.

In the mid-1800s, Europeans started to settle in the area. The first Europeans to settle in Endeavour Hills were the Duffys, who arrived in 1840 and established a farm. Other settlers followed, and the area was rapidly transformed into a farming community with small dairy and vegetable farms, orchards, and vineyards.

20th Century

The 20th century brought significant changes to Endeavour Hills. In the 1950s and 1960s, the area became more suburbanized, and new housing estates were developed to meet the increasing demand for housing.

One of the first major housing estates in the area was the Endeavour Hills Estate, which was developed in the 1970s by Hooker Rex Developments. The estate was designed to be a self-contained community with schools, shopping centers, and recreational facilities.

Over the next few decades, more housing estates were developed in Endeavour Hills, including the Pinevue Estate, the Monterey Estate, and the Churchill Park Estate. The area became increasingly diverse, with a growing population of migrants from Europe, Asia, and the Middle East.

Recent History

In the 1990s and 2000s, Endeavour Hills continued to grow and develop. The area became more accessible with the opening of the Monash Freeway, which provided a direct link to Melbourne's CBD. The Endeavour Hills Shopping Centre was also expanded, and new public facilities, such as the Endeavour Hills Leisure Centre and the Endeavour Hills Library, were built.

Today, Endeavour Hills is a vibrant, multicultural suburb that offers a range of facilities and services for its residents. It continues to grow and develop, with new housing estates and commercial developments in the works.
